"Zeroscaping" And Other Landscaping Misconceptions

Lantana"Zeroscaping" doesn't exist.

You may have heard a friend talking about "Zeroscaping" their new home, especially around Austin where it seems we are constantly under various watering restrictions. Simply put, there is no such thing as "Zeroscaping". The word you're looking for when talking about landscaping that requires minimal watering is "Xeriscape". It's derived from the Greek word "Xeros", meaning "dry". I hear the incorrect word often, even from other agents sometimes.

Xeriscaping doesn't mean creating a rock garden of your yard.

Many people think Xeriscaping your yard means replacing anything green with a rock or cactus, but that's not the case. The concept of xeriscaping involves using native plants in your landscaping. The native plants will be used to the environment in which you live and will not need as much care. The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center keeps a list of native plants that thrive in Central Texas.

You don't need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on your landscaping.

Landscaping does add to the curb appeal of your home, but if you are listing your home, you probably don't have to spend a lot of money to improve your landscaping. This blog has some great ideas on ways to save when improving your landscaping, and don't forget, sometimes all your lawn needs is a little yardwork.

Landscaping typically won't make or break your sale, but it can affect the buyer traffic.
In all my years in this business, I can count on one hand the number of buyers who walked away from a home because they didn't like the look of the yard. It's always fixable. As with the inside of your home, make sure your yard is clean, well presented and free of clutter to maximize your selling potential. If the yard looks rough, it could prevent people from looking inside, because they assume the interior matches the exterior.

If you're considering selling your home, I would love the opportunity to speak to you about this. Feel free to call, text, or email me anytime. My cell number is 512-796-7653.
